Moab, Indian Art close to Moab

A few days ago we checked out all the Indian art sites we could find near town.  A couple of them, on Kane Creek Rd., are badly vandalized which is so sad.  But we saw some pretty cool stuff.

Then we did a walking path through Moab along side a creek and it was a very nice path, pretty with fall colors.  There was also a park with several musical instruments for anyone to play.  That was very cool and these customized instruments produced some really nice sounds!

Note the artwork on the rock in front of the jeep

This was fun, I could have played here all day!

Moab, Dead Horse Point State Park

Yesterday we checked out Dead Horse State Park.  Got a few pics, of course, but was a bit disappointed because the view from this high plateau was not very clear.  Nevertheless, we had a very nice hike, two actually, and put in over 5 miles.  This was really good because Mike has been having some trouble with his right knee and a trip to the doctors resulting in a cortisone shot seems to have helped. Yay!

After Dead Horse we went off road down Long Canyon (which we drove from the other direction a couple of weeks ago) ending at the CO River and stopped to check out some dinosaur tracks indicated by a sign.  Then we found right above the tracks, on the same wall if you will, a whole newspaper of indian art/writing/petroglyphs, whatever you want to call it.

Met some folk from Texas who took this pic of us!

I know it's just a split rock but I liked it........

.......and the way this tree is growing

New snow on the LaSals in the distance

Love these "potholes" in the slick rock.  In spring they are full of life!

Up ahead, we have to drive under that rock??

OK, no big deal.....we fit, but larger vehicles would not!

Moab, More from Tuesdays Hike

Tuesday was such a beautiful day because the clouds were moving in for some weather and creating some nice lighting for pictures.  It rained like the dickens that evening. It started to rain just as we were finishing up our second hike of the day and continued to rain for the next 20 hours.  But oh how beautiful it is now!  And the LaSals are once again snow capped.

Anyway, here are the rest of the pictures from Tuesdays hike.

Tapestry Arch - An arch on either side in the making!

Moab, Park Ave Trail and more arches!

Yesterday was a beautiful picture day cause the clouds were moving in for some rain.  We went back to Arches and did the Park Ave. trail.  It is only a couple of miles roundtrip but for a little trail it's got a heck of a view!  These stone walls make you feel very small.

After the Park Ave. trail, we checked out a few more arches.......

This is the beginning of the trail to Sand Dune Arch, fun!
