Always nice to have a little sun on your subjects! They show up so much better!
Here is Norm doing a quick landing with a nice big fish for the family to share:

Woodland WA, Checking on the nests
This is a mocking bird. I've heard them mimic hawks which is kinda crazy.
Sal and Sally are still hanging out in their nest even though Sally has not laid eggs yet. I'm beginning to wonder if it is too late for this year.
Nice view of fields nearby.
You can see the back of Mrs. Eagles head between the branches on the left......
And the eaglets look to be almost as big as their parents already!
Norma has is watching over her chicks waiting for Norm to come home. All I cans see are little glimpses of heads and wings.

Woodland WA, A Day With Friends
This past weekend on Saturday, we met up with some good friends that were in the area for a family wedding. I have known Gordon and Evelyn for 30 years and it was wonderful to see them if only for a few hours. We met down in Salem, OR, for breakfast and then went to a winery and cheese factory together before they had to be with family for the wedding.
Mike found Bistik Court on line highly recommended as a good place for breakfast and it sure was! It is also very popular and located right in the heart of the historic district of Salem
The food was yummy and looked it as you can see below
Arcane Cellars was a beautiful spot with the vineyard and orchards all around
We enjoyed all of their wines!
Then we moved on to the Willamette Cheese Factory where we tasted several cheeses made from the milk of the cows that live right there.
Yep, the Jersey cows you see behind us! Our friends Gordon and Evelyn on the right;)
After we had to part with our friends, we visited a couple more wineries on our way back....
And ended up spending a little time at Duck Pond winery where we are club members enjoying a snack and some wine of course!

Woodland WA, Woodpecker Babies!
More babies! And just think, soon the most important baby of all this year will be born to my daughter and son-in-law! These woodpeckers are the same ones I took pics of weeks ago in Felicia and Jeff's back yard:
This is one of the young ones anxiously awaiting mom or dads return:
And there she is ! Several seconds later she if off to find more food
Every time one of the parents comes with food they feed the young ones and climb down in the nest where they grab a beak full of debris and take it out with them to dump
And a little ones head pops right back up looking for their return
In this pic you can see moms beak over the little ones

Woodland WA, Checking on the eagles, Sal and Sally and a new osprey?
It is really nice when it's sunny and I can get some clear shots with a bit more detail. This was a good morning:
I walk past the eagles nest on my way to see Sal and Sally and this morning I see the back of one of the adults but no eaglets moving so I walk on knowing I can check them again on my way back.
Sal is bringing home breakfast to Sally. They must still be trying to have a family.
This osprey was hanging out further up river and is not one of the 2 couples I am watching.
Very happy with these 2 pics of this beautiful bird.
On the way back I caught dad eagle bring in breakfast for the family......
You can see both parents on the nest with both eaglets in front if you look closely
You can see dads wing as he takes off on the left through the trees.....

In the picture below, you can see again how far the eagles are from me. In the upper right corner the male is on his perch looking at the cargo ship going by on the river below. |
