Port Aransas Nature Preserve, Port Aransas, TX

Just about 25 minutes south of Rockport is Port Aransas which can be visited by taking a quick ferry ride.  The ferry is free and the ride is just about 5 minutes to cross the channel to Port Aransas.

Another large bird visiting the area this time of the year is the Roseate Spoonbill.  I was hoping we would be able to see some of these birds as they are bright pink and very interesting looking.  We were not disappointed as we found several  at the Port Aransas Nature Preserve along with several other water birds and two very large resident alligators!

Below you can see a barge passing through the channel we had to ferry across:

Had not seen a meadow lark in a while:

Roseate Spoonbills....aren't they interesting!!!

I think their faces look almost comical:)

Lots of ibis among the spoonbills

Check out the gators........this guy was big......
 but this guy was huge!!!

yep, it's a nutria

A beer before heading back to Rockport:)

  1. We haven't made it far enough South to see the spoonbills yet...so I get to live vicariously through you! Gators too!

I am hoping to see at least one armadillo while in TX!
