More Hiking Blue Ridge Parkway

We did a couple of hikes at the Moses Cone Memorial Park at MP 292-295.  These trails are on land that was owned by the Cone family who owned textile mills in the mid 1890s and built a summer estate on the Blue Ridge.  25 miles of carriage roads are available for walking.

the Cone estate, Flat Top Manor, can be seen at the end of Trout Lake up on the hill

wood betony

We slipped in a winery after one
of our walks
Just a bit further along the parkway at MP 295 we hopped on the Tanawha Trail at Julian Price Park for a few miles:

landing on a tree near us as we were leaving the parking lot an osprey with her fresh trout lunch!

Neighboring Boone had a few
nice breweries!

A second hike at Moses Cone Mem Park to Flat Top Tower, an old fire lookout

looking down from the trail to part of the Blue Ridge Parkway

nice views from the top of the tower!

Nice view of Grandfather Mountain, well known for skiing around here

Not many wineries in this area but we
managed to find one!
