Carlsbad Caverns, Carlsbad, New Mexico

A couple of days ago we visited Carlsbad Caverns!  It was the 3rd time for me (the first for Mike) but the feeling of awe was the same, these huge caverns are amazing! We arrived just after the park opened at 8am and had a lot of the self-guided 2 mile trail to ourselves.  Wow!

We walked down into the caverns through the natural opening which took us down 800 feet into the ground.  After seeing all that we could on the self-guided walks, we joined a tour for the Kings Palace walk and got to see another mile of the caverns.  There were other tours as well but not offered on the days we were there.  If we ever get back this way....

My pics are horrible, no matter what setting I used I could not get anything good.  Oh well, here are a few of the better ones:

many, many switchbacks take you down into the caverns

down, down, down

it is really hard to convey just how huge these caverns are!!
