Black Canyon City, AZ

Mike and I checked out an awesome ruins yesterday!  Mike read about it online when looking for trails in the area and it turns out this ruin is close to I-17, just a few miles from here,  on top of a mesa and can be seen, with binoculars, if you know what you are looking for, from the road.  It is actually in the Agua Fria National Monument which houses several Hohokum ruins but the public is discouraged from checking them out because of their locations in some remote, hard to access areas.  So to have one so close and find out about it was great!  It was a steep climb to the top of the mesa but oh so worth it!

The site is posted as an archeological site but no excavation has been done.  It was awesome to be one of a few people to see a natural site.  There are no marked trails, actually no real trails leading to the site to speak of.  We did not see another person the whole time there. I have a lot of pics to go and will post some tomorrow.  In the meantime, I took this pic while we were looking for a way up to the ruins.

this is one determined saguaro!
