Mt Rushmore

We had a very full day today and it was wonderful!  We saw so much I am just going to post this morning right now.  I already know I will be behind the whole time we are here as there is so much to see and do!

Mt. Rushmore is situated in the Black Hills which is some beautiful country!  The monument and learning more about it was fascinating:

Completed in 1941, it took 14 years to sculpt at the cost of $900,000.

the steps below are part of a half mile loop trail that takes you from the viewing platform to under the monument

you can see more of Roosevelt's face from this angle

The sculptures museum where Gutzon Borglum could look up through the window and make adjustments on the monument.  A major change; Lincoln's face was supposed to be on Washington's left but there was not enough room.
