Sand Canyon Ruins

As we could not go to Mesa Verde, Mike searched the web for other ruins that might be in the area and found Sand Canyon.  Then our friend Lisa reminded us that she and Hans had done Sand Canyon this past May and they loved it.  What a day!  Just amazing, this beautiful red rock canyon had ruin after ruin in it.  The weather was great, the colors were amazing and we only got a few drops of rain late afternoon.

we did the yellow trail on the right and backtracked to the crossover trail to East Rock Creek just doing that lower loop to finish......not enough hours in the day!

this shot is from across canyon but the trail took us up to these two ruins, do you see them in each of the alcoves?

  1. Amazing place isn't it! I want to spend more time in that area because I believe there are many more canyons with ruins and beautiful rock formations to explore. Hovenweep, more of Canyons of the Ancients...pretty darn incredible!
