Dos Cabezas Mtns, Ft. Bowie

On our previous visit to this area, we explored the ruins at Ft. Bowie.  Very interesting, it is where Geronimo was held for several years and one of his children is buried in the cemetery there.  We drove back to that area to do some more exploring and took another hiking trail into the ruins.  We only spent a few minutes at the ruins as we had seen them recently but enjoyed the hike.

a Red Tail watches as we drive out the Ft. Bowie road

you can see part of the ruins on the hilltop

We followed the old pioneer trail into the area

the hillsides were covered in beavertail cactus!

stopped for a tasting at the Ft Bowie winery on the way back!
