Two Harbors, MN, on the great lake Superior

I must say I have never given much thought to a lot of places in our great country, just knew I wanted to visit and find out more about each state.  I knew the Great Lakes were pretty darn big.....but no idea how big.  I grew up with Gordon Lightfoot's, "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", but never gave the place where it occured that much thought....well my eyes are wide open now and I'm paying attention and I'm amazed!

We arrived in Two Harbors day before yesterday and this is our front yard for the week:

It is amazing to be on a lake so big you cannot see the other side....

It feels like being on the shore of an ocean!

We drove up the coast to get in a hike at Tettegouche State Park and stopped to check out an iron ore processing plant.  Lake Superior is the largest fresh water lake in the world.  Occasionally, it will freeze over!!!!! Usually just for hours but think about it!!

The drive to Tettagouche was lovely and scenic.  I feel like we're on the Oregon/Washington coast it's that beautiful!

We decided to to the High Falls Trail at the park. High Falls has about a 63 foot drop but it is the largest falls completely within MN.

We passed Two Step Falls on the way to High Falls:

We walked across a suspension bridge that spanned the top of the falls:

The wildflowers are absolutely amazing all over this state at this time of the year:

 Just lovely!

  1. It sure does look like OR or WA! You might want to take a look at the blog: In the Direction of Our Dreams. They are also at the Great Lakes and have done some great hikes and outings.
