Purple Mountain Hike, Fountain Paint Pots, Midway Geyser Basin

Running behind on posts now due to internet problems!  Just a part of life;)  Purple Mtn. was not purple of course, we presume it is called that because we found what we think are juniper bushes with "purple" berries on them.  Keep forgetting to ask though.  A very nice hike resulting in great views of the Madison River.

Then it was off to Fountain Paint Pots, west side of Yellowstone.....

On the way caught a nice pice of this healthy looking coyote......
Fountain Paint Pots has a few, but very large, pools and geysers.....

Then it was on to Midway Geyser Basin in the same area.....
This beautiful geyser does not erupt often, but when it does it huge as is seen on the storyboard below..

This is the Grand Prismatic Pool.  The size and colors are outrageous!  This is pictured from above in many promo pics of the park.  You can get some of that perspective if you climb a steep hill on the edge of the basin.  We are going to do that before we leave the park!

  1. Oh my goodness, LOVE it all! The plateau and the geysers in the distance. The elk. The colors in the pools, the clouds...WOW!
