Sink Canyon, Lander, WY

We had a wonderful leisurely day hiking in Sink Canyon near Lander, WY, yesterday.  Sink Canyon is so named because the Po Po Agie River, which runs through the canyon, disappears into a cavern midway down the canyon and then reappears a quarter mile further down!  Very interesting!  They have done dye tests to confirm it is the same water reappearing. In fact, there is more water coming out at the lower end than goes in at the upper end!

Here is the Po Po Agie River.......
And here it is as it "sinks" into the cave in the hillside

Views from inside the cave.  The water just disappears into cracks in the lower cave wall.

We started a hike at this point which took us up canyon 2 1/2 miles...
We crossed the Po Po Agie a few times on the trail

Back at the campground near the visitors center, we stopped to say hi to the camp host.....
But he did not have much to say;)

Magpie, check out the iridescent feathers!

Then we hopped in the jeep and drove down to the "Rise" which is where the water reappears.   You can see it coming back up from the rocks. Very cool!
Then it continues to run on down the canyon like it never took a break;)

Lander is a nice small town with its old buildings on Main St......
 And statues in the park.....

Also had a really nice sunset!.....
Which was enjoyed by a bunny sitting in front of the motorhome;)
